I read a great writeup in a new marketing newsletter today that really hit home and addressed an issue I’m sure plagues a lot of entrepreneurs, particularly those trying to build an online business. The concept goes something like this, we get an idea but know we don’t know everything we need to know (still following me?). So like intelligent people we go out and research what we don’t know then put to work for us what we have learned. Maybe we get stunning results but more often than not we get results that are less than what we were targeting.
So we go back to the research to learn more and see if that will help us meet our lofty goals. Repeat, repeat, repeat… eventually what happens is we’ve got so much info coming at us and spend so much of our time researching to find “all the answers” that all of our mental bandwidth is taken by incoming info leaving us no pipe to push info back out (i.e. sell products, write, whatever…). The good news is it’s easy to fix, the bad news is our own behavioral patterns will try to prevent us from doing what we need to and that is shut off the pipe. Just stop reading and researching relentlessly and apply what you have already learned. All too often, success or failure isn’t because you bought into bad info, it’s because you didn’t really apply the info that was at your disposal (or didn’t do it well).
I’d recommend the newsletter because:
- It’s only in it’s first edition so you won’t have a lot of catching up to do.
- Every article is written by an expert and is a short, fast and meaningful read.
- It’s FREE.
You can get the newsletter here. Just jump down to page 20 after you sign up, Janette’s write up on the topic is a little more elegant than mine and there is other good stuff in there too.
